Saleen Automotive was founded in 1983 by Steve Saleen, with the simple goal of bringing race-proven performance to the street. What originally started as a means to earn extra money for racing, has grown into a global operation with worldwide recognition.
Steve is an accomplished racer and has competed in Formula Atlantic, Trans Am, Sports Car, Truck, and Indy car to name a few. He has won many championships and has raced across the globe at some of the most legendary venues including LeMans.
Saleen's factory racing team dominated the SCCA Pro Racing series in the 1980s, winning the 1987 Manufacturers' and Drives' Championships. Its racing dynasty continued through the 1990s, with additional Manufacturers' Championships in '96, '97, '98, '99 and 2000.
In the summer of 2000, Saleen shocks the automotive world with the unveiling of the Saleen S7, the first true American Supercar. The aerodynamic, mid-engine S7 ushers in a new era for Saleen, showcasing the company's ability to design and engineer a complete ground-up automobile. The S7 impressed Ford Motor Company executives so much that Saleen was awarded the Ford GT contract for engineering, development, and assembly.
Today Saleen continues to build its ever popular 302 Mustangs, Sportrucks, including the off-road XR, and the Tesla GTX all while developing its next cutting edge, American Supercar.
